Every Sunday morning I host a breakfast party for my friends called “Cereal Sunday.” It’s genesis was based on the idea that we usually eat so well during the week, wouldn’t it be fun to kick back, let loose and return to our younger years with a large bowl of sugar cereal and cartoons.The first cereal Sunday went well, we had everything from Cinnamon Toast Crunch to Lucky Charms and an array of fruit toppings and watched The Sword and the Stone in our PJs. It sounds like the perfect morning, except one glitch… we all felt terrible within an hour and the cereal just didn’t taste like it used to… bland and artificial tasting. I guess you just need to remind yourself why real food is so much better. Therefore we abandoned the sugar cereal, and Cereal Sunday evolved into a more sophisticated affair with healthy dishes. That is when I created raw apple walnut oatmeal.
Raw Apple Walnut Oatmeal. A super simple breakfast that also doubles as a great snack for later. This is an easy way to get into raw breakfast food that is pretty much dummy proof… that is as long as you have a high speed blender like a Vitamix. Eating raw is a great way to eat because it provides the highest about of nutrients in one meal.
Raw Apple Walnut Oatmeal
1 Medium Organic Apple, sliced
1/4 Cup Uncooked Rolled Oats
1/4 Cup Raw Walnuts
1 Tsp Cinnamon
1. Placed apple, oats walnuts and cinnamon in a high speed blender.
2. Blend until consistency of oatmeal, but do not pureé. You will have to use a pushing tool to get the ingredients to mix properly like the Vitamix tamper tool.
3. Serve and Enjoy!
