Health Benefits of Rooibos Tea

As we travel around the world, we learn about various eating habits that inspire us to make healthier choices, such as Breakfast in Germany, Spices in India and Dinner in Brazil. One of my new current obsessions is from South Africa. While I have never been there, I have become quite close with a couple natives, making me feel as though I have. Other than their fabulously delightful accent, their love for cats and “grounding,” they have introduced me to the world of Rooibos Tea. Welcome to the health benefits of rooibos tea.

While I was not a huge fan of the Rooibos Tea I have had here in the U.S., I am a FANatic of their Rooibos that they bring straight from South Africa. It is a powdered concentrate, so you receive 10x its health benefits, and it tastes creamier and slightly sweeter than any tea I have ever tried, without being “too sweet.” By the way: I am drinking some out of my mustache cup now, just so I can give you the most accurate account I can 🙂

South African Rooibos Tea

Rooibos is enjoyed throughout the country, but not as the name Rooibos, but as the name Bush Tea. In South Africa, it is equivalent to their “Starbucks,” but so much healthier, as it does not contain acid-forming caffeine, artificial sugars, dairy and tons of calories. Instead they are drinking a tea famous for its concentration of antioxidants, polyphenols and phytonutrients including Aspalathin, Quercetin, Orientin and Chrysoeriol. Furthermore, it increases Glutathione levels which is imperative for detoxification in the liver. So instead of choosing something to make you sicker, we can choose something to make us stronger, healthier and happier!

Here is a video of my Dear South African Friend, Clive, talking about his fabulous Rooibos Tea:

Could this be one of the secrets of South Africans health and slim waistline?

Well, it sounds good enough to me to keep trying. With 2-3 cups per day, it has been a fantastic substitution for coffee, diet and energy drinks. I usually start the day with 1 cup, along with my Mason Jar of water, unheated pink salt and 1/2 lemon. Then I usually have 1 cup in the afternoon to hold me over till dinner, and then another one before bed. No matter how you do it, it’s going to help you offset any toxic exposure you might have, or help you to balance any other “naughty” behavior you might be engaging in. Or that’s how I see it 🙂

So now that you are all convinced and want to join my South African Rooibos Tea Drinking Club, I am not going to leave you high and dry to drink the regular U.S grade, I am going to show you just the spot where Clive sells this amazing stuff! Grab your own jar of rooibos tea here!

Now this tea is a little expensive, but the thing is 1 cup of tea only uses 1/4 a tsp, so one jar gives you 196 cups! So that’s really a steal! Just spreading the LOVE here.
