The Healthiest Gluten-Free Frozen Meals

I get it, making all your own food from scratch every day is exhausting if not impossible. There are plenty of busy days where it is a triumph just to get dinner on the table let alone figure out what to pack for lunch the next day. That is why having the healthiest gluten-free frozen meal options on hand is so important. While I try not to rely on them too much, they are a life saver when needed.

The important thing to remember is that most frozen foods are not healthy. They are typically high in sodium (enough to blow you up into a blimp with one single meal), high in sugar, bad fats, and preservatives. These are ingredients we do not want to eat, and certainly, want to avoid for numerous health reasons and for the dignity of our waste line. So in order to help you figure out what the healthiest gluten-free frozen meals are I put together this list of my favorites.

The Healthiest Gluten Free Frozen Meals are free of the following:

  • GMO corn or soy
  • Hydrolyzed soy protein, textured soy, soy protein isolate, modified food starch
  • Artificial colors or preservatives (like BHT, TBHQ, caramel color, maltodextrin)
  • Animal products raised with hormones or antibiotics
  • Non-organic, conventional dairy
  • High levels of non-fermented soy
  • Toxic oils like canola oil
  • Bad fats like shortening, trans fatty acids (partially hydrogenated oil) and canola oil
  • High sodium levels
  • “Food-like” ingredients
  • High fructose corn syrup or corn syrup solids
  • Unhealthy amounts of calories, saturated fats etc.

A Few Last Thoughts

Microwaving Frozen Foods

Many frozen meals come in plastic containers that are meant to microwaved. Microwaving food is a big no-no in the health world. Not only does it destroy the majority of the food’s nutrients, it also causes dangerous (cancer-promoting) chemicals to leach in your food. These chemicals are called BPA which are known endocrine disprupters. This means that they interrupt hormone balance which can lead to a host of issues including increased rates of breast cancer, testicular cancer, PMS, menopause, endometriosis, PCOS, irregular periods, early onset of puberty, thyroid disorders, and gynecomastia (male breast growth).

Beware of Soy

Many gluten-free, vegetarian frozen foods are made with soy. Most of this soy is genetically modified unless it says GMO-free. Make sure to also avoid soy additives such as soy protein (concentrate, hydrolyzed, isolate) and textured vegetable protein (TVP).
