Personal Care

We are unknowingly exposed to hundreds of chemicals a day from our personal care products and it is time that we took notice. Everything that we put on our body gets absorbed and can influence our health, causing numerous conditions ranging from skin irritations and headaches to chronic diseases, hormone imbalance and cancer. The following are my favorite products on the market, that actually take the terms “Organic, Natural and Chemical-Free” to heart. With all of the marketing and advertising out there, it is often extremely difficult to know what is best. So here are the fruits of my labor… always clean, pure and most important effective. Enjoy!

I was wondering what can be used safely to help combat all of the static that builds up in the clothes in the dryer. I’ve heard that dryer sheets aren’t good either.

    • lauren

      Hi Mary,
Static cling usually occurs from over drying your clothes and can be avoided if you lower the temperature a bit and shorten the drying time slightly. If there is a slight amount of moisture left in the clothes it will prevent the cling. Secondly, you can also try adding 1/4 cup of vinegar to the wash cycle as well, this is shown to be effective as well in many cases. Thanks for the question!

Due to the fact that the world has been changing drastically that is why we need to certainly practice proper hygiene and be totally aware of things specially when it concerns our health. Undeniably health is the only wealth that enables us to go through life’s difficulties so we must be very careful then.

  3. Lots of good ideas here. There’s really no end to the research you could do. I could use a shower filter, the one you have here is reasonably priced. The water supply in my town is completely pure, from a mountain watershed where people are not allowed to go (Cedar River). Yet due to a newer national regulation the city was required to start adding chlorine, and I noticed the change in my hair immediately, it’s much less soft.

  4. Hi Lauren,I’m looking for an all natural make up to use,do you have any suggestions?

    • Cathy,
My teen daughter and I love the products from 100% Pure. If you live in California, you may be lucky enough to have a store nearby, but we order online. Wonderful, fruit-pigmented, non-toxic products!

      • lauren

Oh great suggestion! As a Cali resident, I will have to start looking around for them.

Do you have recommendations on the best natural shampoos/conditioners and other hair care products? If this is covered in a different post, sorry, I searched and couldn’t find anything!

    • lauren

I LOVE Griffin Remedy. I use the Restorative Shampoo and the Restorative Conditioner. Really hydrating, gentle, with no synthetic smells. Leaves my hair really soft, moisturized without being heavy. Enjoy!

  8. Amy

Hi Lauren! I’ve been following your blog for a little over a year now and am currently reading your book…kudos to you on an awesome job! I have a question I am hoping you can answer. Do you have any recommendations for natural hair dye? I am prematurely graying (it is genetic) and have been using chemical laden hair dye for years, but within the last year I have started replacing my personal care and cleaning products with natural and chemical-free alternatives. The hair dye is the last of my toxic care products I am still using. I just can’t accept the fact that I am sooo gray at only 36 so there is no chance I will go natural! I am hoping there is a brand of natural hair dye you can recommend. Many thanks!

Hi Amy, there is good news and not so good news. There are plenty of natural hair dyes for dark hair (browns, blacks etc.). What color hair are you? If you are blonde, that is more difficult. With that being said, if you are getting highlights, that dye is not touching your scalp so the transfer of the chemicals to the body is minimal. The majority of transfer is during the actual dying process where you breathe in the chemicals. Are you dying the whole head or can you do highlights?

    Hi Kale,

My 20 year old daughter has severe acne, can you recommend treatment or creams/clays/diet?

    Is Acne hereditary?

Hi Yasel, sorry about that! I found another brand that I have been loving called Schmidts Deodorant – I am loving the Lavendar and Sage, but they have other natural scents as well. Check them out!
